New Years Resolution Time

There is only one New Years Resolution worth making in my book: Making more time for Cats, notsokitty.com, and the Notso Kitty Shop in 2012!!!! But that could be my resolution for any year 🙂 Happy New Year Everyone!

A Behind-the-scenes tour of Cat Hat production in Notso Kitty’s Studio

Where does the magic happen for the Notso Kitty Shop? Well at Cat Hat Studios of course! I must admit I’ve been somewhat lax in my kitty fascinator production as of late— with the holidays upon us I’ve been distracted with other activities. I have had to make two Princess Beatrice Cat Fascinators (one to fill an order, one to re-stock the store) last week, but I haven’t been diving in to new adventures in cat hats  like I have wanted  yet. Such is life I guess!

My cats have certainly noticed the lack of cat hats lately. I caught my cat Fluffy hanging out in my workshop, eagerly anticipating his next cat hat!!! He ate the ribbons off of the presents I had recently wrapped— as if to protest me paying attention to them instead of cat hats! Poor Fluffer… So in the meantime I decided to let Fluffy give you a tour of Cat Hat Studios to keep him occupied.

Above is an overview of what Cat Hat Studios looks like. Some parts are not to scale— but one thing is very accurate: Fluffy most times is seated (or sleeping) in the barstool that has been placed next to the desk. That is his central command post— where he can keep an eye on the happenings in Cat Hat Studios— and also see who is coming up the stairs.

Fluffy Watches over Cat Hat Studios

Above is one of Fluffy’s typical stances: Watchful, curious, and interested in what Cat Hat Studios has in store for him. It is most essential that this studio be one where cats want to hang out– for inspirational purposes. Also it’s best to have cats in close reach for easy try-on’s of cat hats in progress.

Anything can wind up on the “Cat Hat Inspiration Board” which sits in the corner of the studio. Not only cat hat inspiration winds up there, but home decor, random pictures of cats, style and other notes and fun things I find wind up there as well. Kind of a clearing house for things that catch my eye.

Cat Hat Supplies

Above are some cat hat supplies. You can see the diversity in cat hat construction techniques in this photo: wire cutters, gorilla glue, ribbons, thread, pins, ETC, ETC, ET CETERA! Note the Maneki Neko, for added inspiration 🙂 I try to keep things neat (other than what is on my desk) so I invested in a few cat hat supply cabinets

Despite my cats protests, I am a little psychotic with my label-maker when it comes to trying to organize. Everyone has their things…. psychotic labeling happens to be one of mine 🙂

Though crafty-type supplies make up the majority of the cat hat supplies, it should be noted that cat treats are just as important to keep stocked in the studio. Below is another photo of my diverse supplies.

Decor in the Notso Kitty Shop studio varies, but most is cat-themed. I loved this tin retro sign I found recently at a shop selling pub-themed decor. How appropriate!

When my cats are tired of modeling cat hats, sometimes I give them a reprieve and use a stuffed or wooden model. My stuffed cat “Siami”, a present from my cousin Sean when I was just a kid, makes the perfect cat hat model stand-in. Also I use a wooden cat model that was carved by my mom (cat crafts run in the family).

This next picture is the other place where I typically find Fluffy: Right in the middle of the studio desk. What is it with cats and their ability to stand in the middle of what you were about to work on?

That concludes today’s tour of Cat Hat Studios. Fluffy hopes you have found it enlightening….. Now back to work on more CAT HATS!!!

Belated Kitty Cat Christmas Presents

Ay! With all the Christmas time activities on my plate, I hardly had time for Catsmas! Well, belated though it may be, my cats still managed to make out pretty well with their holiday gifts. What did I get my cats this year? Here is my list of Notso & Fluffy’s kitty cat Christmas presents:

1. Catnip Bubbles

These are a favorite of my Fluffy kitty. I especially like to use them with a mini fan— to make the bubbles blow around really fast and drive the cats CRAZY! This is one of their favorites— but they have been out of stock for awhile. So it makes the perfect cat Christmas present.

2. Though I can’t use these yet with the frozen ground, I purchased cat-friendly “seed balls” from Anthropologie. They came ready-to-plant in a cute little pouch. I also got these for my sister’s kitties for Christmas 🙂

My cats are both big fans of anything that can be eaten outside; whether it be poisonous to them or not. Hopefully growing more cat-friendly plants will deter them from my potentially cat-fatal Lily of the Valley! No Christmas pointsettas for those cats!

3. And let’s not forget the best Cat Christmas present of all: Cat accessories from the Notso Kitty Shop!  Both cats received some new outfits and accessories. You’ve already seen Notso’s holiday look, but it couldn’t hurt to show it again… He is just too cute!

The search for the next cat-mobile

Ay- I managed to wreck my once-perfectly good cat-mobile on the Massachusetts turnpike! Such a fate has come to many a-catmobile I suppose. I’m not sure if it’s totaled yet for sure, but in the meantime I’ve been thinking about cat-mobile replacements! A search of the interwebs has turned up many amusing options indeed…. Here are some of my favorite kitty cars out there:

This one is from www.strangevehicles.com …. Strange vehicles indeed! This pink kitty cat car would look just amazing cruising down the turnpike. I wouldn’t want to make any of the other cars jealous though

This next catmobile specimen comes from carphotos.org . This looks like it would fit more people than the pink kitty car above… Perhaps the vehicle for those kitty-crazed people with families? Or maybe for those that need our cars to be more than just commuting vehicles. It looks like it could double as a dune buggy if you wish. Amazing!

The next one I’m not even sure why I’m including on the list….. It is pretty obvious to anyone that knows me that I will never have the driving talent or attention span necessary to ride a motorcycle. Still, this Kitty Ducati from automotto.com almost makes me want to swear off cars. Almost!

The next picture must be the closest to an ideal catmobile that I found. Really, no other cars could compare once I saw this beauty over on cheezburger.com. If they had a a dealership full of these things, I would buy a new car every week!!!
